A Recovery Coach is someone who has PERSONAL experince with ADDICTION and can bring out your best enabling you to live happily and meaninfully without using.
ABSOLUTELY, therapy often assumes you are broken and or deficient. As your COACH I believe you POSSESS all the skills needed to rid yourself of your addiction. Its about recovering YOUR BEST SELF.
I work One -On- One with my clients (not patients!!) I follow the 12 steps in principle but I add my many years of practical and personal experinece, i.e., what has worked for me ( 35 years and counting) to augment our work together. Each client is different and each client needs to be coached depending upon their individual needs and history. Spoiler alert Most histories are remarkably similiar despite whatever ideas you currently have about the uniqueness of your addicition story. THere is point where all stories come to essentially the same narrative. You'll see that I am right and that you are not alone.
I recomment a 30 day committment.
We wilI meet daily for at least one hour ( if we go over I do not charge) and discuss in grea detail:
a) your history with alcohol and drugs;
b) efforts to get sober to date that have failed;
c) family situation that either helps or hinders our work;
d) review of your assessment of meetings that I DIRECT YOU TO ATTEND;
e) review of the very specific assignments or "tasks" that I entrust to you;
f) review of any stumbling blocks you might eb encoutering and ways to get through them without white knuckleing it;
g) continued feed back on your progress and greater challenges and tasks that I believe you are ready for and acknolgment of your progress and growth.
You will get a lot more momemntum if you attend 12 step meeting - especially sitting nest to me. I strongly advise you to go to these meeting that you and i will tailor to your specifi situation. A meeting filll of ex gang bangers might not be best for a high tech or investment banker type. Iongly encourage you 0- at teh beginning to go to same sex meetings to avoid that the natural temptation and diostraCTION OF CO ED MEETINGS.
Congratulations! You ll be in the great majority of people I have worked with.
Sponsors focus only on working the 12 steps. I am not limited to a particular program of Recovery.My focus is on helping the addict/alcoholic in all areas of his life affected by addiction.
As long as you remain committed to your Recovery, we will get you back on track as quickly as possible.

Yes. only first names are used. No identifying information is shared.
There are as many different meetings as people. There are meeting that I don’t like. I will take you to meetings I know to be solid, with long term sobriety in the rooms and not just people complaining and doing the “poor me” dance.
I can meet you after work and there are meetings every night. No work schedule is so onerous that we can’t accommodate.
Yes and no. Yes to the extent that I know the underlying genius that is at play in the 12 steps which is an acknowledgement that you are not “bad” but rather suffer from disease every bit as real and pernicious as diabetes. You don’t need punishment but help and guidance. Thus I subscribe to the “Disease Model” of alcoholism and addiction. Contrary to first appearances this doesn’t get you off the hook. On the contrary, it puts even greater responsibility on you to assist in your healthy recovery. Once sober there is even more work you will be required to do to mend fences. Why? Because long term sobriety requires that fences be mended and kept strong to prevent a sabotage of your gains. As you will see cleaning up your past is one of the single most powerful ways to ensure a clean future. This may not make sense to you now but trust me on this- I’ve seen so many failures due to the broken fences that were never mended that it breaks my heart. You and I Will engaged in extensive “house cleaning."
I can’t guarantee that working with me will keep you out of jail ( if you currently have an open case) but I work with attorneys and can provide an offset to might otherwise be a not to glowing probation report. I can and will advocate to keep you out of jail so that you can continue to work with me on the “outside."
Yes. What I bring to the table is extensive hands on knowledge and experience in what works in Recovery. Ironically, many doctors and therapists have never been to a 12 step meeting and many have absolutely no personal experience with alcoholism/addiction. Our fields are meant to be complimentary not a replacement or substitute.
