To reduce stress and increase a sense of well being.
Meditation helps quiet the addict/alcoholic’s busy mind and control negative thoughts.
If you have an obsession of the mind coupled with the ingestion of a substance, controlled drinking/using will be useless.
Suffering from substance abuse and mental illness ( eg. depression or anxiety).
No. All mind-altering substances are prohibited.
No- after 33 years I come to see that while each alcoholic/addict is different the similarities are the same. Whether your substance is liquid or pills or plant we will get you to stop using it.
Sponsors focus only on working the 12 steps. I am not limited to a particular program of Recovery. My focus is on helping the addict/alcoholic in all areas of his life affected by addiction.
As long as you remain committed to your Recovery, we will get you back on track as quickly as possible.
If you want to move forward with a sober life, then contact me today. If you have unanswered questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Yes, the backbone of our work together will revolve around meetings.
Yes. only first names are used. No identifying information is shared.
There are as many different meetings as people. There are meeting that I don’t like. I will take you to meetings I know to be solid, with long term sobriety in the rooms and not just people complaining and doing the “poor me” dance.
As many meetings as it takes to develop new habits and patterns.
Consider how long and intensely you’ve been using. We need to turn that around or do the 180 on it. If you have been using like 99.9 percent of alcoholics and addicts you have been using an extranormal amount for many years or decades. We need to start strong.
I can meet you after work and there are meetings every night. No work schedule is so onerous that we can’t accommodate.
Yes and no. Yes to the extent that I know the underlying genius that is at play in the 12 steps which is an acknowledgement that you are not “bad” but rather suffer from disease every bit as real and pernicious as diabetes. You don’t need punishment but help and guidance. Thus I subscribe to the “Disease Model” of alcoholism and addiction. Contrary to first appearances this doesn’t get you off the hook. On the contrary, it puts even greater responsibility on you to assist in your healthy recovery. Once sober there is even more work you will be required to do to mend fences. Why? Because long term sobriety requires that fences be mended and kept strong to prevent a sabotage of your gains. As you will see cleaning up your past is one of the single most powerful ways to ensure a clean future. This may not make sense to you now but trust me on this- I’ve seen so many failures due to the broken fences that were never mended that it breaks my heart. You and I Will engaged in extensive “house cleaning."
I can’t guarantee that working with me will keep you out of jail ( if you currently have an open case) but I work with attorneys and can provide an offset to might otherwise be a not to glowing probation report. I can and will advocate to keep you out of jail so that you can continue to work with me on the “outside."
Yes. What I bring to the table is extensive hands on knowledge and experience in what works in Recovery. Ironically, many doctors and therapists have never been to a 12 step meeting and many have absolutely no personal experience with alcoholism/addiction. Our fields are meant to be complimentary not a replacement or substitute.
